Healthcare and wellness platforms occupy a unique space online. The people who visit them are often seeking answers to questions they feel uncomfortable asking elsewhere. They arrive quietly, privately, and with a high need for reassurance before they engage with anything on the page.
That is why healthcare website design carries a responsibility that goes beyond aesthetics. It must create an immediate sense of safety, clarity, and credibility. A website that feels clinical, cold, or disorganised doesn’t just underperform — it reinforces the very barriers it is meant to break down.
For practices and platforms working in sensitive health topics, accessible web design and web design for medical practices must be built around the emotional state of the visitor, not just the goals of the organisation. This was precisely the challenge Untaboos brought to Bixel Design.
Untaboos is a Sydney-based platform founded by Dr. Niveditha Manokaran, a medical practitioner with over 15 years of clinical experience in sexual health and HIV. A TEDx speaker, sex educator, and domestic violence advocate, Dr. Manokaran built Untaboos on a single conviction: that education, not silence, is how stigma ends.
Through Untaboos, Dr. Niveditha Manokaran provides consultations, counselling, speaking engagements, and educational content across sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and domestic violence support. She serves women, youth, and LGBTQI communities, guided by the mantra: Educate Yourself, Protect Yourself.
The mission was bold and important. The digital presence was not keeping pace with it.
When Untaboos came to us, the gap between the importance of their work and the impression their website made was significant. Three core problems needed solving:
In health and wellness web design, the stakes of getting this wrong are uniquely high. A user who feels uncertain or uncomfortable on a sensitive health platform doesn’t ask a question – they leave.
We approached this project the way we approach all website design for mental health professionals and sensitive healthcare platforms — by mapping the emotional state of the visitor first. What are they feeling when they arrive? What do they need to see in the first few seconds to feel safe enough to stay? Those questions shaped every design decision that followed.
Discovery — Understanding the Audience and the Mission
We began by understanding Dr. Manokaran’s values, her audience’s emotional needs, and the specific barriers her platform needed to address. Her visitors often arrive carrying stigma, uncertainty, or fear. The design needed to dismantle those barriers within seconds of landing on the page.
Brand Refresh — Warm, Progressive, and Trustworthy
We led a complete brand refresh grounded in emotional storytelling and clarity. The new visual identity was built to feel clean, approachable, and empowering without losing professional credibility. A softer colour palette replaced the previous clinical aesthetic, and every brand element was designed to communicate openness and safety — the foundation of effective healthcare website design.
Website Redesign — Structure Built for Sensitive Navigation
The website was completely restructured with clear navigation, purposeful content hierarchy, and messaging that connected on a human level. We applied accessible web design principles to ensure the experience was inclusive and easy for all users to navigate — particularly those approaching sensitive topics for the first time. The result is a site that reflects the quality of healthcare web development that purpose-driven platforms deserve.
Collateral — Brand Consistency Across Every Touchpoint
Social media visuals, business cards, flyers, and a brochure were created to extend the refreshed identity across every platform and interaction. In health and fitness website design and broader wellness branding, consistency is not a detail — it is how trust is built over time across every point of contact.
Many healthcare platforms and medical practices are delivering meaningful, life-changing work behind a digital presence that doesn’t reflect it. If your website feels outdated, inaccessible, or disconnected from your mission, that gap is costing you the trust of the very people you are trying to reach.
Bixel Design specialises in healthcare website design, web design for medical practices, and health and wellness website design — built on human psychology principles that make sensitive platforms feel safe, clear, and credible from the very first visit.
